Looking for a High Protein Bariatric Friendly Snack, Try Cheesy Cloud Chips

Looking for a High Protein Bariatric Friendly Snack, Try Cheesy Cloud Chips

Looking for a High Protein Bariatric Friendly Snack, Try Cheesy Cloud ChipsWe found this recipe for Tasty’s Cheesy Cloud Chips and were intrigued. With egg whites and cheese as their primary ingredients, they are definitely packed with protein, which is especially important for gastric sleeve, gastric bypass, and lap band patients. Dr. Shillingford encourages his bariatric patients to consume between 60-80 grams of protein each day. For some, that can be a difficult task. Consuming high protein foods at mealtime and for snacks can help weight loss surgery patients meet their protein needs while experiencing weight loss after their gastric sleeve, gastric bypass, or lap band surgery.

Gastric sleeve patients who are at or past Stage 5 in their post-op diet and tolerating regular consistency foods can give these a try. The recipe can work well on its own, or you can get creative with it. You could change the spice blend (may we suggest Everything But the Bagel seasoning) or turn it into mini pizza flavored chips with diced pepperoni and a dollop of sauce on top. Get creative while still maintaining minimal carbohydrates.

Cheesy Cloud Chips

4 egg whites

½ cup shredded cheese blend

1 tsp garlic powder

2 tsp chopped parsley (bariatric patients may want to skip or reduce this depending on post op diet stage)

Salt and pepper to taste

Directions:

Preheat oven to 400 degrees.

In a bowl, whisk together egg whites, garlic powder, parsley, salt, and pepper.

Evenly distribute egg mixture in a greased mini muffin tin. The more mixture per muffin slot, the thicker the chip.

Top with shredded cheese.

Bake 12-15 minutes, or until cheese is melted and edges are slightly brown.

Cool for 10 minutes.

Remove chips using an offset spatula.

Enjoy!
