Gastric Sleeve Chicken Burrito
Dr Kahlil Shillingford who did both his college and medical years at University of Michigan specializes in gastric sleeve surgery. Many gastric sleeve patients can be in a run and need to eat fast food – busy lifestyles! Chicken burritos can be a favorite and a popular chain known in Michigan is Chipolte. Here is an example of some food substitutions such as a chicken burrito bowl instead of a burrito itself.
Chipolte chicken burrito substition:
Instead of the Chicken Burrito with black beans, rice, green tomatillo salsa, cheese and sour cream eat at the Chicken Burrito Bowl with lettuce, black beans, Green tomatillo salsa and sour cream.
A great sub for the sour cream is guacamole, which does have more calories but they come from heart-healthy monounsaturated fats. The Chicken Burrito is 1,092 calories and 44 grams come from fat and almost half are saturated fat. It is also high in sodium at 2323 mgs. Whereas the Chicken Burrito bowl is 489 calories and only 22 grams of fat, and only 9 grams are from saturated fat. It also has about half the sodium at 1006 mgs. Some other great picks to try are the crispy steak tacos or the carnitas salad.
Both are around 500 calories.
Michigan gastric sleeve patients and gastric sleeve patients around the country are always seeking healthy substitutes especially with take out restaurants. Dr Shillingford’s gastric sleeve practice continues to learn and grow of healthy substitutes to offer gastric sleeve patients.
