What is Hypothyroidism?

Hypothyroidism is a term used to mean an underactive thyroid gland, meaning your thyroid gland doesn’t produce adequate amounts of hormones. Your thyroid gland is a small butterfly shaped gland located just below your Adam’s apple that produces triiodothyronine (T3) and thyroxine (T4). These hormones help control your body’s metabolism, body temperature, influence your heart rate, and regulates production of proteins.
