Comparing Bariatric Surgeries
Are you struggling with weight loss? Then come see Dr. Shillingford in Boca Raton, for your free consultation, regarding the different types of bariatric surgeries he performs, such as the gastric sleeve, lap band, and bypass. The most common of these procedures are the gastric sleeve and the lap band and the differences between these two procedures are as follows.
Gastric Sleeve: Dr. Shillingford removes a portion of the stomach, leaving the patient with a sleeve. This procedure leaves the patient feeling fuller quicker and the patient will eat smaller portions. Once this is removed it cannot be replaced. This is an inpatient procedure where the patient will remain in the hospital for approximately 2 nights. Patients can lose approximately70% of their excess body weight with the gastric sleeve procedure.
Gastric Lap Band: Dr. Shillingford places a ring around the top part of the stomach. This ring is inflated to choke off the bottom part of the stomach. The patient will feel full quicker than they did before. This procedure can be reversed. The patient can lose a significant amount of their weight. In general, this procedure is done on a 23 hour outpatient basis.
Both of these procedures las well as the gastric bypass can lead to weight loss. Call our office in Boca Raton and come meet Dr.Shillingford to get your free consultation and discuss which is the best procedure for you.
